Thank you to all the artists who applied for the 2013 An Occasion for the Arts.

The Applications have been submitted to the 2013 Juror, Sally Eckman Roberts, for review.  The artists selected to participate in this year’s show will be notified before June 15, 2013.

Application and Participation Guidelines

Artist Eligibility

All accepted artists agree to abide by these policies and procedures. Failure to do so will result in removal from the show.

 Application Deadlines and Fees

Applications submitted for review must be received by AOFTA by the May 15,2013 deadline.
Artists will be notified of acceptance by e-mail by June 15,2012.

Artists accepting the invitation must submit a non- refundable Standard Booth Fee of $300 by July 15,2010 with non-refundable payment for Add-on Booth Preference, if requested .Please Note: preferred locations are not guaranteed.

 Exhibition Fees

Required on acceptance into Show  -  Deadline July 15, 2013   $300 Standard Booth Fee

 Optional Booth Preference Add-Ons:  Requests and fees for add-ons must accompany the Standard Booth Fee. However, locations are not guaranteed.  Space assigned on a “first paid” basis.

Fees are not refundable.

$300 – Additional booth (double space)
$ 50 – Corner space

 Media Categories for Exhibition and Awards

For all categories, 90% of the artwork must be original; only 10% of all work can be prints, reproductions, giclees.  ALL artwork must have been completed within the last four years.

 Painting – original works created in oil, acrylic, tempera, encaustic. Only 10% of works can be prints, include giclee prints.

Watercolor – Only 10% of works can be prints, include giclee prints.

Ceramics and Glass – All ceramic vessels must be hand-built or thrown by artist; all glass pieces must be hand blown or hand cut and fused by artist.

Drawing – (pen and ink, charcoal, pastel)

Printmaking – No posters. All prints must be hand-pulled or created and numbered individually.

Jewelry – Personal Adornment. All jewelry, strung or cast pieces, must be original, handmade and of the artist’s design. No assemblage or stringing of purchased beads will be accepted.

Photography – All images must be shot by artist; all prints must be signed and numbered. Signed/numbered limited editions may not exceed 250 in number for each edition.

Mixed Media – Work created from wood, metal, handmade furniture, paper, fiber, batik. No machine tooling, machine screening or any form of mass production is permitted.  T-shirts and commercial clothing are ineligible. No magnifying glasses, pens, bottle stoppers or catalog merchandise is permitted.

Show Participation

 Artists may display only items that are for sale.

  • ALL artwork displayed must have been completed within the last four years.
  • Exhibited items must be comparable in type, style and quality to those represented in the application images.
  • Artworks must be labeled with prices as well as media used.
  • An artist’s statement describing the techniques, materials, and processes used in the creation of  the work exhibited is to be posted visibly in the booth.
  • The majority of the work exhibited by each artist must be original by a ratio of  two to one. (For example, if an artist exhibits ten paintings, up to five different signed/numbered reproduction editions may be exhibited.)
  • Signed/numbered limited editions may not exceed 250 in number for each edition. Open edition prints may not be exhibited or sold.
  • All photographic artwork must have been printed under the supervision of the artist and signed on the front of the image or mat. Exhibited photographs may be a unique print or in a numbered edition of no more than 250 inclusive of all formats and sizes.
  • Note cards reproduced from an artist’s original work may be exhibited but in limited quantity.
  • Exhibiting artists are  reminded that sales tax in Virginia is 5%. An Occasion for the Arts accepts no responsibility for the proper collection of appropriate taxes.
