2012 Artist Application Guidelines

Overview

Artists are accepted into this juried art show based on a review, by the show juror, of submitted sample artwork accompanying their application. All applications must be submitted by the May 15, 2012 deadline with the $30.00 application fee. Acceptance into AOFTA is based entirely on the images submitted. Artists will be notified of acceptance via e-mail by June 15, 2012. Artists accepting the invitation must submit a non- refundable Standard Booth Fee of $300.00 by July 15, 2012 with payment for Add-on Booth Preference, if requested by artist. Please Note: preferred locations are not guaranteed. Submission of an application constitutes agreement by Artist to comply with policies and procedures outlined in these Artist Application Guidelines. Failure to do so will result in removal from the show.

If you cannot complete the application process on line, please print and mail the completed application form with jpeg images and application fee to: AOFTA, P.O. Box 239, Williamsburg, VA 23187. Application Deadline: May 15,2012 Application Fee $ 30.00 – Due with application. This fee is non-refundable.

Media Categories for Exhibition and Awards

Each year, AN OCCASION FOR THE ARTS presents cash awards totaling $3,000 for exceptional artists. The 2012 award categories will be determined by this year’s juror. At this time, each artist should select the one category, below, that best describes his/her artwork. Categories in the past have included:
  • Painting
  • Jewelry
  • Ceramics
  • Photography
  • 3D/Mixed Media
  • Drawing/Print Making

Sample Artwork Required for submission to Juror

With the application, the artist must submit 3 digital images (digital images should be in JPEG format, medium density) for consideration by the juror for admittance to the show. Indicate title, size and medium for each image submitted. AOFTA is not responsible for the loss of submitted materials. All images, submitted for acceptance into AOFTA, must be of original art or fine craft that have been created by the applicant or, in the case of certain reproduction processes, under the direct supervision of the applicant. Submitted artwork must have been created within the last 2 years. Artist hereby agrees to allow AOFTA to use accepted images for event marketing.

Exhibition Information

Optional Booth Preference Add-Ons*: Additional $100.00 – Premium for Duke of Gloucester Street Location Additional $300.00 – For each additional 10' x 10' space Additional $ 50.00 – Corner location *Requests and fees for add-ons must accompany the Standard Booth Fee. However, locations are not guaranteed. Space assigned on a “first paid” basis.

Show Participation

  • Artists may display only items that are for sale.
  • Exhibited items must be comparable in type, style and quality to those represented in the application images.
  • Artworks must be labeled with prices as well as media used.
  • An artist’s statement describing the techniques, materials, and processes used in the creation of the work exhibited is to be posted visibly in the booth.
  • The majority of the work exhibited by each artist must be original by a ratio of two to one. (For example, if an artist exhibits ten paintings, up to five different signed/numbered reproduction editions may be exhibited.)
  • Signed/numbered limited editions may not exceed 250 in number for each edition. Open edition prints may not be exhibited or sold.
  • All photographic artwork must have been printed under the supervision of the artist and signed on the front of the image or mat. Exhibited photographs may be a unique print or in a numbered edition of no more than 250 inclusive of all formats and sizes.
  • Note cards reproduced from an artist’s original work may be exhibited but in limited quantity.
  • Exhibiting artists are reminded that sales tax in Virginia is 5%. An Occasion for the Arts accepts no responsibility for the proper collection of appropriate taxes.
