Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums

CW Fifes & Drums open the AOFTA Show

On Sunday morning, as in previous years, the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums will march through the exhibit area at about 10 am to open An Occasion For The Arts – art show and music festival.  Musicians are drawn from a waiting list of young community applicants. Boys and girls begin their education in military music at age 10 and practice weekly for the next eight years, until they have graduated from high school.  Learn more

Community Contribution Award for 2009

Adelaide Grattan wins Community Contribution Award

Rawls Byrd School arts instructor Adelaide Grattan received An Occasion for the Arts’ first-ever Community Contribution Award for her outstanding  contributions in the advancement of the arts in greater Williamsburg.  Grattan has been a part of the community for the past 30 years with Williamsburg-James City County Schools.

In the past, her students have received the AOFTA trophy and they have been awarded the Land Conservancy Beautification Award.

The 2009 award was presented at the Williamsburg Symphonia Concert on Saturday Night, October 2, 2009 before An Occasion for the Arts on Sunday.
